21 Teams All Ready To Fight It Off In JM 2009

KUALA LUMPUR: All 21 teams are now ready to fight it all out for victory in Jelajah Malaysia (JM) 2009, which made history as the biggest continental teams’ participation in 2.2 category race in the world.

 

 

In the upcoming JM 2009 organized by Ten Speed Events Sdn Bhd, 14 continental teams from all over the world gather here to ride against each other in quest for victory starting from tomorrow until 26th April.

Executive Chairman Datuk Astaman Abdul Aziz stated that all riders have already arrived here in the country and are waiting for start of the oldest tour in Malaysia.

"In the management side, every plans has been executed and we are waiting for the race to start tomorrow. With the relentless support from corporate bodies especially Electcoms, the title sponsor of JM 2009 and also not to forget the Police Force (PDRM), Insya-Allah this edition will be more interesting and challenging compared to the previous ones," he said.

He mentioned in the team presentation that was held in Concorde Hotel, Shah Alam today.

21 teams participating in this edition are Malaysia A, Malaysia B (MCF), LeTua, Terengganu Toshiba-Bike Labz, Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), Bridgestone Anchor (Japan), Jelly Belly Cycling Team (USA), Azad University Continental Team (Iran), Savings & Loan Cycling Team (Australia), Shimano Racing Team (Jepun), Polygon Polygon Sweetnice Team (Indonesia), Tabriz Petrochemical Team (Iran), Aisan Racing Team (Japan), Ride Sport Racing (Australia), Giant Asia Cycling Team (Taiwan), Trek Marco Polo Cycling Team (China) Doha Team (Qatar), Indonesia, Thailand, Tinelli Colossi Cycling (New Zealand) and JazySports Beacon (Phillipines).

In this edition Tabriz Petrochemical Team, Iran the previous edition’s overall team winner lining-up experienced riders; Ghader Mizbani, Hossein Askari, JM 2007 best overall rider; Mehdi Sohrabi and Azad University Continental Team putting its bet on Anuar Manan, the previous event best overall sprinter are the two teams anticipated as favourites.

Other teams anticipated to be quite a challenge are Jelly Belly Cycling Team, Savings & Loan Cycling Team and to forget, our local boys of five Malaysian teams.

Tomorrow’s stage of 176.8km will commence at 10am from Kuala Selangor with sprint zones in Sungai Besar and Teluk Intan, Kampar before the climb in Gopeng and will be concluded in Ipoh.

A humongous total amount of RM 280,000.00 overall prize money is the biggest amount in the history of the event, in conjunction with the upgrade of Malaysia to Asia ‘A’ category by the International Cycling Union (UCI).

JM 2009 features a total distance of 1,240km stage 1starting tomorrow from Kuala Selangor to Ipoh, stage 2 (Ipoh - Sungai Petani), Stage 3 (Gerik - Tanah Merah), Stage 4 (Pasir Mas - Kuala Terengganu), Stage 5 (Kuala Terengganu - Kuantan), Stage 6 (Kuantan - Bera), Stage 7 (Tanjung Malim - Genting) before ending the 8-stage event in a criterium race in Dataran Merdeka.
