| ATM Looks Forward To Win For Navy 75th Year Anniversary |

KUALA LUMPUR: Team Malaysian Armed Forces eager to make its mark and in Jelajah Malaysia (JM) as a memento for the 75th Anniversary of the Malaysian Navy this coming 27th April. ATM Cycling Team Manager Commander Ismail Othman said that with the outstanding accomplishment of a 1-2 finish in Kedah recently, it is possible to realise its dream. Lining-up two senior riders who are also national riders, Mohd Nor Rizuan Zainal and Mohd Zamri Salleh, The Armed Forces targets to dominate the climb zones at Bukit Banding and Genting. Apart from Mohd Nor Rizuan and Mohd Zamri, Armed Forces debut in JM2009 is strengthens by Mohd Shafrul Afiza Fauzian and Mohd Fadhli Anwar Fauzi, who are the back-up riders of the national team and also Muhamad Hazwan Azeman and Amirul Aswandi Imran. "Most of our riders are from the navy which would justify any accomplishment in JM2009 as a memento for the 75th anniversary of the royal navy this coming 27 April.” "Since it is our first participation in JM2009 this year, we anticipate the best ride and performance from all of our riders to honour the Armed Forces and the Malaysian Royal Navy respectively," he added. With the presence of two senior riders such as Nor Rizuan who represent team LeTua during the previous JM and Mohd Zamri who represent the national team, the Armed Forces manager is confident that team will be able to pose a threat to other riders, local and international alike. Ismail said that for the time being the riders are busy with the preparation to ensure that the team is in the utmost condition during the race, which will kick off from 19th April in Kuala Selangor and ends 26th April in Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur. He said that the training is being concentrated to the climb zones especially in Genting. Apart from that, Ismail said that now they are in Kuantan before participating in a local race as part of their preparation to fight it all out in the upcoming JM 2009. "The training also includes a number of selected routes featured in JM 2009," he added. Executive Chairman Datuk Astaman Abdul Aziz said that the debut of the Armed Forces will be an opportunity for the riders of the Armed Forces to enhance their skills in cycling while also be a venue for the team to amount their ability to compete internationally. "We welcome the debut of the Armed Forces which not only feature two senior riders but also line-up back-up riders to gain experience competing with experienced riders from abroad," he added. Jelajah Malaysia 2009 organized by Ten Speed Events Sdn Bhd will feature an eight-stage race starting from Kuala Selangor to Ipoh, stage 2 (Ipoh - Sungai Petani), stage 3 (Gerik - Tanah Merah), stage 4 (Pasir Mas - Kuala Terengganu), stage 5 (Kuala Terengganu - Kuantan), stage 6 (Kuantan - Bera), peringkat tujuh (Tanjung Malim-Genting) and will end in stage 8 of criterium race in Dataran Merdeka. The race of 2.2 categorization by International Cycling Union (UCI) are one of tours in calendar of UCI Asian Tour. |
