KUALA LUMPUR: National rider, Muhammad Fauzan Ahmad Lutfi or better known as Bayau amongst fellow riders will be participating in the road-race tour of Jelajah Malaysia 2009 after a much-needed rest of four months due to knee injury.

After his win of the National Championship in August, Muhammad Fauzan will be participating in Jelajah Malaysia, donning the jersey of National Team as long as taking the challenge as the national team’s no. 1 rider.

"I had just started training for a week and honestly speaking I don’t have any high expectation in Jelajah Malaysia this time around.

"Even though I am yet in the best condition, I would double my efforts in training of less than a month as part of my preparation to ensure the national team to win in the tour." He added, who had just started his study of Science Sports at the Open University Malaysia.

Muhammad Fauzan, 23, who hails from Datuk Keramat, Pulau Pinang also said that the tour of eight stages would be quiet a feat, as riders have to overcome two Category 1 climbs.

"I can see that each stage of this year’s race covers quite a distance and it is my wish to finish the race, which proves to be quite a challenge."

He emphasized that teams such as Iran, Jelly Belly Cycling Team from USA and Savings & Loan Cycling Team from Australia are those that will difficult to beat as they have outstanding riders.

Jelajah Malaysia 2009 Executive Chairman Datuk Astaman Abdul Aziz said that he is delighted to hear that Muhammad Fauzan is getting better and will be challenging others in this year’s Jelajah Malaysia.

"Even though he had been ‘resting’ for quite sometime now, I am confident that Muhammad Fauzan will be at his best and be a challenge to others thus proving himself as the pride of the country," he added.

He also said that the comeback of Muhammad Fauzan hopefully will strengthen the national team line-up such as the winner of Malaysian jersey; Suhardi Hassan, Mohd Faris Abdul Razak, Muhamad Rauf Nur Misbah, Ahmad Fallanie Ali and Wan Mohd Najmee Wan Mohd.

Jelajah Malaysia 2009 organized by Ten Speed Events Sdn Bhd is a road tour of 2.2 categorization by International Cycling Union (UCI).

With a total distance of 1240km, Jelajah Malaysia is expected to kick off from Kuala Selangor to Ipoh on the 19th of April 2009, and will travel in a clockwise direction from the north to the East Coast before culminating in the Kuala Lumpur Criterium on the 26th of April 2009.
