KUALA LUMPUR: Continental team from Australia, Savings & Loans Cycling Team entrusted Jai Crawford as its best rider to bring the challenge in Jelajah Malaysia (JM) 2009 that will kick-off from 19th – 26th this April.
Executive Chairman Datuk Astaman Abdul Aziz informed that Crawford who hails from Tasmania was second overall behind Jose Serpa (Diquigiovanni-Androni) in Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) 2009.
"The 26-year old rider started his cycling career in cross country and has vast experience in world-event cycling and achieved a number of victories internationally will be quite a threat to other riders out of the 21 teams competing in JM 2009.”
"Ten Speed Events is thrilled with the first-ever participation of team Savings & Loans in JM as the team has been a regular participant in races in Oceania and North America. This team is one of the best UCI continental team from Australia," he added.
The rider who keeps to his motto "Don't start climbing that mountain unless you're going to the top" won stages in Tour of Wellington 2009 last January also achieved second overall in Tour of Japan 2008.
Astaman said that Crawford will be riding side by side with the Australia National Road Race Series 2008 winner, David Pell and the youngest rider, 20-year old Tim Roe who was in second place in the series respectively.
Apart from them, team Savings & Loans Cycling is strengthen with the presence of Steve Robb, Will Dickeson andJoel Pearson.
Savings & Loans Cycling established in 2004 will be in the run for victory with another 20 teams; Jelly Belly Cycling Team (USA), Bridgestone Anchor (Japan), Azad University Continental Team (Iran), Shimano Racing Team (Japan), Polygon Sweetnice Team (Indonesia), Tabriz Petrochemical Team (Iran), Aisan Racing Team (Japan), Ride Sport Racing (Australia), Giant Asia Cycling Team (Chinese Taipei), Bridgestone Anchor (Japan) Trek Marco Polo Cycling Team (China) and Doha Team (Qatar), Indonesia and Thailand national teams, and two clubs, which are Tinelli Colossi Cycling from New Zealand and team JazySports Beacon from the Philippines.
Five local teams are Malaysian national team, MNCF Cycling Team, Terengganu, Armed Forces (ATM) and LeTua are lining-up their best riders to compete in the 2.2 categorization race.
All riders will be competing against each other in an eight-stage race of 1240km in distance starting from Kuala Selangor to Ipoh, stage 2 (Ipoh - Sungai Petani), stage 3 (Gerik - Tanah Merah), stage 4 (Pasir Mas - Kuala Terengganu), stage 5 (Kuala Terengganu - Kuantan), stage 6 (Kuantan - Bera), peringkat tujuh (Tanjung Malim-Genting) and will end in stage 8 of criterium race in Dataran Merdeka.
