Roe Made His First International Win, Anuar Gets A Hattrick

KUALA LUMPUR: Savings & Loan Cycling rider Timothy Roe made his first international win as he emerged as the yellow jersey winner at the final stage of Jelajah Malaysia (JM) 2009 which ended today in a criterium race.

The South Australian rider recorded 29 hours 31 minutes and 28 seconds to emerge the best overall rider ahead of team-mate, Jai Crawford and Ghader Mizbani in second and third with a time difference of 24 and 25 seconds.

Roe, 20-year old said that he was ecstatic to win the jersey as the Iranian riders are stronger and quite a handful to compete with along the race since the start last 19 April.

"I participated in Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) 2009 earlier this year buy today’s win is my first international. For sure I will be coming back for the tour," said the young rider who is only active in cycling for the past five years.

As for the local rider Anuar Manan who represents Azad University from Iran proved his mettle as he won the sprint jersey three years in a row.

Anuar, 23 won the green jersey with a total of 29 points ahead of Mohd Nor Rizuan Zainal (Armed Forces) in second while Mehdi Sohrabi (Tabriz Petrochemical) in third with 24 and 20 points.
He said that in Stage 7 he was left behind 5 points by the jersey keeper Mohd Nor Rizuan and today his team worked hard to ensure his win.

Anuar, 23, who led in the first and second sprint zones was left behind in the third sprint as he suffered a puncture gave the opportunity to team-mate Hossein Nateghi to emerge victorious earlier today.

The final stage today is a criterium race of 12 rounds in Kuala Lumpur starting and ends in Dataran Merdeka with a total distance of 80.4 kilometer.

"I would like to thank all Malaysians who supported me relentless and also Jelajah Malaysia who provide me a platform to be a household name. I am happy to retain the jersey three years in a row," commented Anuar who is a Kuala Ibai, Terengganu native.

Anuar said that after this he will be entering the tour in Indonesia and continue with his training in Tehran to improve himself at the climbs.

Red polka dot jersey winner Abbas Saeiditanha who is Anuar’s fellow compatriot was hailed as the king of mountain as he accumulated 15 points ahead of Mehdi and Hossein who were in second and third with 14 and 11 points.

"Congratulations to the organizer for organizing a great event. I am happy that our team managed to win two jerseys in the final stage today," he quoted.

The new white jersey winner Muhamad Rauf Misbah said that he was happy with today’s win as the best local rider as this is his first win ever since this is his third participation in JM.

"Thank you to my team-mate Suhardi Hassan who has been helping and support me and not to forget the rest of the team-mates. Thank you to all," mentioned the 22-year old rider.

Team Tabriz Petrochemical emerged as the team winner ahead of another 20 teams followed Azad University in second while Savings & Loan Cycling in third.

Team Leader Tabriz, Ghader Mizbani said that JM is the best 2.2 classification race in Asia with improvements in terms of organizing and competition.

As for the local team classification, team LeTua Cycling came first folloed by Malaysian national team and Terengganu Toshiba Bike Labz.

JM 2009 organised by Ten Speed Events Sdn Bhd features 21 teams comprise of Malaysian National Team, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia B, LeTua Cycling Team, Terengganu Toshiba-Bike Labz, Angkatan Tentera Malaysia (ATM), Jelly Belly Cycling Team (USA), Azad University Continental Team (Iran), Savings & Loan Cycling Team (Australia), Shimano Racing Team (Japan), Polygon Sweetnice Team (Indonesia), Tabriz Petrochemical Team (Iran), Aisan Racing Team (Japan), Ride Sport Racing (Australia), Giant Asia Cycling Team (Taiwan), Bridgestone Anchor (Japan), Trek Marco Polo Cycling Team (China), Doha Team (Qatar), Tinelli Colossi Cycling (New Zealand) dan JazySports Beacon (Phillipines).

JM 2009 is an eight-stage race of 1,240km in total distance with Stage 1 starting from Kuala Selangor to Ipoh, Stage 2 (Ipoh - Sungai Petani), Stage 3 (Gerik - Tanah Merah), Stage 4 (Pasir Mas - Kuala Terengganu), Stage 5 (Kuala Terengganu - Kuantan), Stage 6 (Kuantan - Bera), Stage 7 (Tanjung Malim - Genting) before ending the race in a Criterium race in Dataran Merdeka.
