PASIR MAS

Stage 4 of Jelajah Malaysia 2009 will be from Pasir Mas to Kuala Terengganu thru Kerian, Peringat, Kampung Tok Bali, Kuala Besut, Kampung Tembila, Merang, Wakaf Tengah and Pulau Duyung covering a distance of 177.5km. The stage will end at the Syahbandar Square in Kuala Terengganu.

Pasir Mas was the second biggest district in Kelantan until the early 1990s when its was overtaken by Tanah Merah. The expansion of the small town is blocked from expanding to the south by the Kelantan River whilst the railway line in the north splits the town. For the past few years a new township is taking place four miles from the town at the hamlet of Lubuk Jong; previously a swampy area along the road leading to Rantau Panjang.

Apart from the usual varieties of tasty food heavily influenced by the Thais, one of the best attractions of Pasir Mas is the traditional remedies sellers and their gimmicks. A vacant area opposite the Jamiah madrassah has been the business venue for these traditional remedies sellers since the 1960s.
